No illegal tax benefits given by Ireland to Apple; European General Court annuls Commission’s ruling

The European Commission, in the year 2016, had held that Ireland has granted undue tax benefits of up to € 13 billion to Apple. This was illegal under EU state aid rules because it allowed Apple to pay substantially less tax than other businesses. However, the General Court of the European Union has held that the Commission did not succeed in showing to the requisite legal standard that the Irish government had given tax advantage to apple.
